Paradise Fortune Casino
A mobile game focused on slots and renovating an island resort shrouded in mystery!
I was mainly tasked with animating 3D characters and animals for the isometric island builder portion of the game. The characters are tiny on the screen so I had to push for strong acting and silhouettes on very simple rigs, while also always considering the four directions they can face. This job proved a good challenge, as it was my first time animating at 60 FPS and my first professional game dev experience. I was eventually brought on to work directly in Unity to create storyboard node graphs for cutscenes, and animating 2D game assets for in-game tasks.
Timmy
Your typical spoiled rich kid. I had fun showing his attitude!
Animals
These little ambient NPCs roam the island.
Mae
Charlie’s wife! A giddy woman who’s very interested in the island’s mysteries.
Charlie
Mae’s husband! A soft spoken man, he acts a lot like your typical dad.
Phoebe
The ever positive guide of the player and daughter of the island’s previous owner.
Guests
Generic animations used for randomly generated guests that visit the resort.
This is an example of a cutscene I choreographed and some build animations for the hotel exterior tasks.
The cutscene celebrates the completion of the hotel’s renovation, and is when the player meets Charlie and Mae for the first time. I used node graphs to determine character movement, rotation, animation, as well as camera movement and fades.
Each build task has three variants each. The animations are done using assets created by the art team and premade particle effects. I timed them out and implemented them using Unity’s in-engine tools.
